Two recent studies published the latest edition of the journal Nature reveals the fact that the tsunami in indonesia that hit Aceh in 2004 is the biggest event in 600 years. Tsunami as strong as it may be having looping back 600 years later.
Tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Tectonic earthquakes are a particular kind of earthquake that are associated with the Earth's crustal deformation; when these earthquakes occur beneath the sea, the water above the deformed area is displaced from its equilibrium position.(wiki)
This can be seen from the pattern of soil layers were measured at two different locations that do two different research teams. The team, led Kruawun Jankew of Thailand's Chulalongkorn University to take a sample of 150 points on the west coast of Thailand. While Katrin Monecke leadership team from the University of Pittsburgh, USA take a sample of 100 points in Aceh Indoesia within two years, 2006 and 2007.

At both locations the researchers found layers of sand below the soil surface which is evidence of tsunami events in the last 2500 years. Sand layer is formed from material that the wave swept ashore. With radiocarbon dating techniques, the time of tsunami can be predicted.
Radiocarbon dating is a radiometric dating method that uses (14C) to determine the age of carbonaceous materials up to about 60,000 years old. The technique was developed by Willard Libby and his colleagues in 1949 during his tenure as a professor at the University of Chicago. Libby estimated that the radioactivity of exchangeable carbon-14 would be about 14 disintegrations per minute (dpm) per gram of pure carbon, and this is still used as the activity of the modern radiocarbon standard. In 1960, Libby was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for this work.(Carbon-14)
From the measurement results, they found that the equivalent strength tsunami in indonesia events of 2004 never happened 600-700 years ago. One of them also uncover evidence that a similar tsunami had occurred between the years 780-990.

The conclusion is the tsunami in Indonesia or anywhere can come anytime, whether 600 years 100 years and even a year we should always be alert. Do not let happen again because of the tsunami victims. And tsunami Aceh do not happened in other places. I hope too.
